Cheech, Tommy, Shelby and Old Friend of Tommy Discuss Cheech & Chong

Vancouver's Straight.com author, Guy MacPherson, wrote a fantastic article about Cheech & Chong. He interviewed an old friend of Tommy's named Henry Young. In addition, he interviewed Shelby Chong while she was in Nevada for the roast and Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong as they drove from Portland to Eugene, Oregon.

Some highlights:
Tommy Chong and Henry Young met when Henry was 16.
Tommy taught Henry how to play guitar which led to Henry playing with jazz musician Nina Simone.
Henry says Tommy was a lady's man back then.
Tommy's future wife, Shelby Fiddis, lived next door to Chong and his first wife. This is how they met.
Sgt Stadanko was based on a Vancouver NARC named Snidanko.

There is a lot of other great information in the article, but we don't want to spoil it.
This article is a mandatory read.

  • Well Im going to take a little bit of credit, But its no big deal. If you all remember the book signing tour of Chong, I met up with him and wrote about it. In Corte Madera, Ca. a raving lunatic came up to Tommy and we were in the middle of a interview. Tommy would escape to safety, while I held back the man who was WHAT? Later the man would come right inside the book siging room and start up again. He was escoted out for good at this time.
After listening to Tommy and his speech that day I saw a lot of sadness for his old friend Cheech. His eyes teared up and his voice cracked as he seemed to be all out of strength regarding the same old story on him and Cheech. I'm sure he has been asked millions of times now. It was clear to me he really missed his pal. His vibes were strong but his soul was sad. I wrote to Cheech telling him all about Tommy that day and said, "You'd better become pals again before its too late!" It wasnt to long after that May 24 2008 about a year or less they got together at Tommy's for a 70th b day. So I dont really need this credit but I am sure glad Thereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Backkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!
The world is truly a better place for having Cheech and Chong and all their families. God Bless you guys Merry Hollidays
