Cheech To Present At The 2007 Alma Awards

Cheech will be one of the presenters at this year's Alma Awards. He will be honoring George Lopez. It airs Tuesday, June 5th at 9 p.m. on ABC-TV.

On DVD For The First Time. GROUP MADNESS: THE MAKING OF YELLOWBEARD

Filmed on location in England and Mexico, filmmakers Michael Mileham and Phillip Schuman teamed up to make this hour-long special documentary about the film Yellowbeard. An unbridled free hand was used to come up with a remarkably irreverent film. Known as the funniest behind-the-scenes film ever made, Group Madness, now is available on DVD. Filming took place in 1982. The filmmakers were granted complete access to the stars including Cheech, Chong, Marty Feldman and more. This was Marty Feldman's last film. Michael reflects on some on-set and off-set happenings, including insight on Marty Feldman's death. Likened to "Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" for the shear number of comics, this film is a comedy classic.

Trivia:
• The creators had an agreement with Orion that they would license the film to them for a one-time TV showing. That happened in 1983. It pre-empted Saturday Night Live.

DVD Features: Audio in English. Antidotes and inside information from Michael Mileham while he introduces various clips from the film. The DVD is Region Free!

George Lopez Canceled. "TV just became really, really white again,"

We're sorry to report that George Lopez, one of the best sitcoms on tv today, has been canceled. It was a great show, but consistently got poor ratings. ABC-TV kept changing its day, but it was always competing against American Idol. Nothing can compete against American Idol so George Lopez got a bum deal.

It's been replaced by a shitty show called Caveman. It's about cavemen living in modern day. Also shocking is that a lot of really bad new shows were renewed.

If you recall, Tommy Chong played a neighbor on an episode this past season and Cheech Marin played George's homosexual dad in season two. Season two is available on DVD.

In better news, George Lopez has an upcoming HBO special, a film coming out this summer and is on tour. He'll be at New York's Radio City Music Hall this June. If you see him live, you'll notice that Carlos Mencia ripped off George's act.

Read this article. George Lopez completely goes off on the network. Says "TV just became really, really white again."

Cheech Goes South Of The Border

Last month, we reported that Disney is working on a new film titled South of the Border. According to Cinema Blend, "Chloe, a Chihuahua from Beverly Hills, is arrogant and rich. She goes on vacation to Mexico (presumably with her owner) and gets lost. She then must find her way home."

Cinema Blend speculated that Cheech would be involved in such a film.

They were correct. Shortly after posting this story, Cheech Marin received an offer from Disney. The deal was finalized today.

The film will be directed by Raja Gosnell, best know for Big Momma's House and Home Alone. He was also an editor on the Cheech and Chong film Yellowbeard.

Chong Booked For Hempstalk, But Event Denied Permit

Tommy Chong has been booked to perform at the annual Hempstalk festival in Portland, Oregon. Unfortunately, Portland refuses to issue the event a permit.

The city claims that at least year's event there was widespread illegal drinking and pot smoking. However, the attorney for The Hemp and Cannabis Foundation (THCF)—a medical marijuana provider and Hempstalk's main organizer, "calculated that, based on other weekends, there were 40 percent fewer arrests at the park during our event than usual."

They're going to keep fighting for a permit, but it doesn't look good.

Update: Problems At The Argosy Casino This Past Weekend?

A huge Tommy Chong fan emailed us saying she and about a dozen are people were refused entrance to the Tommy and Shelby comedy show this past weekend because of problems with their identification.

The shows took place this past Friday and Saturday at the Argosy Casino in Alton, IL. When this fan arrived for the show on Friday night, her fiance was refused entrance because the corner of his driver's license was starting to peel. Security called it "mutilated" and refused him entrance.

Approximately, a dozen other people experienced the same problem.

"Nowhere on the info that the casino sent out did it say that you needed a perfect license to get into the show", the fan said. "Nor were we told that when I called and ordered the tickets three weeks before the show".

At first, the casino manager refused to refund the money fans paid for the tickets. However, after some arguing, he relented.

Tommy and Shelby had nothing to do with this problem. It was the casino security.

We've let a message for the casino to get their side of the story. We'll post their response when it's received.

Update: We received this response from the casino.

"Yes it is correct that individuals were turned away on Saturday evening. This was the result of damaged photoID. The state of Illinois requires that everyone has valid photo ID to enter the property. ID that is damaged in anyway is not considered valid. Often times false IDs have flaws with them such as this and we have too high of risk by admitting guests with these flaws. We are subject to fines from the state starting at the six figure mark foranyone that is not of age. We are not saying that these individuals were underage, however we cannot accept the risk and have firm internal controls that we must follow in order to stay in compliance with the state gaming regulators.

When individuals purchase tickets, they are informed that everyone must be at least 21 years of age. This communicates that ID is required for admittance. It is the responsibility of individuals that they carry ID that is in proper form. The casino informing guests that we do not accept damaged ID is beyond what needs to be communicated, but rather the burden falls on the guest.

We have refunded everyone in which this occurred. "
